Did you know that there is an SD Card Association which establishes all of the standards for Secure Digital memory cards? The SD Card Association also keeps consumers up to date on the new innovations in the industry. They have announced that consumers can expect SDXC card speed to increase by 3x in 2012. If you have just recently switched from an SD or SDHC card to an SDXC card, then you probably already thought the card was fast. All SDXC cards run at the current maximum speed, which is Class 10 or 133x. But the new generation of SDXC cards will have a new pin system which makes data transfer even faster.

SD cards can typically transfer data at max speeds of 104 MB per second. But, when they are put to use, the actual rate is much slower than this. Now, the rate should increase to 300 MB per second. If you already think that your SDXC card is going fast, then this new technology probably isn’t meant for you. However, having an SDXC card running at such a high speed means that you will have improved HD video capabilities and it even means big things for mobile devices and tablets as well. More people will also be able to use their SDXC card for other purposes outside of just photos and videos, such as in place of an external hard drive. If the SDXC card speed keeps increasing, consumers are going to have to update their computers to keep up with it!
